DK or worsted weight yarn in white, grey, pink, and light blue
Small amounts of green, white, and red yarn for scarf detail
Crochet hook suitable for your yarn

STITCHES (US Terms)
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
ss – slip stitch
FO – fasten off
BLO – back loop only (or blo is also back loop only)
Bobble stitch
Do 4 incomplete dc into the same stitch, yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat four times, yarn over and pull through all loops.
inc – increase
dec – invisible decrease
hdc – half double crochet
sts – stitches
R – round/row
[…] – stitch count
(…) – repeat instructions
Tips Before You Begin
Stuff firmly but gently so the shape holds without stretching the stitches.
When stuffing arms, only fill three quarters of the way so they remain soft and movable.
Use stitch markers to help with placement of arms and shaping of the legs.
Take your time with assembly, this is where personality really comes to life
Arms, make 2
White yarn
Round 1: 5 sc in mr [5]
Round 2: inc in all stitches [10]
Round 3: bobble stitch, sc in next 9 stitches [10], the bobble forms the thumb
Rounds 4 to 13: sc in all stitches [10]
Stuff lightly, about three quarters full.
Round 14: (sc in next 3 stitches, dec) repeat twice [8]
Fold arm flat and sc through both layers to close [4].
Fasten off, leaving a short tail for crocheting into the body later.
Tail
Grey yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in mr [6]
Round 2: inc in all stitches [12]
Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rounds 4 to 5: sc in all stitches [18]
Change to white yarn.
Round 6: dec, sc in next 14 stitches, dec [16]
Rounds 7 to 8: sc in all stitches [16]
Round 9: dec, sc in next 12 stitches, dec [14]
Round 10: dec, sc in next 10 stitches, dec [12]
Round 11: dec, sc in next 10 stitches [11]
Round 12: dec, sc in next 9 stitches [10]
Begin stuffing.
Round 13: dec, sc in next 8 stitches [9]
Round 14: dec, sc in next 7 stitches [8]
Round 15: dec, sc in next 6 stitches [7]
Stuff firmly.
Round 16: dec, sc in next 5 stitches [6]
Round 17: sc in all stitches [6]
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. When attaching to the body, position the decrease side underneath so the tail curves upward.
Ears, make 2
White yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in mr [6]
Round 2: inc in all stitches [12]
Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Rounds 4 to 6: sc in all stitches [18]
Do not stuff. Fold ear in half and sc through both layers [9].
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Head and Body
White yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in mr [6]
Round 2: inc all stitches [12]
Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6 [18]
Round 4: (sc, inc) x 9 [27]
Round 5: (sc in next 2 stitches, inc) x 9 [36]
Rounds 6 to 8: sc in all stitches [36]
Round 9: (sc x 3, inc) x 9 [45]
Rounds 10 to 15: sc in all stitches [45]
Insert safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, approximately 5 stitches apart.
Round 16: (sc x 3, dec) x 9 [36]
Round 17: (sc x 2, dec) x 9 [27]
Rounds 18 to 19: sc in all stitches [27]
Round 20: (sc x 8, inc) x 3 [30]
Rounds 21 to 23: sc in all stitches [30]
Round 24: place arms at the sides using stitch markers, sc through arms and body when you reach them [30]
Rounds 25 to 27: sc in all stitches [30]
Round 28: (sc x 9, inc) x 3 [33]
Rounds 29 to 42: sc in all stitches [33]
Round 43: (sc x 9, dec) x 3 [30]
Stuff the head and body firmly.
Round 44: sc in all stitches [30]
Divide the body in half to create legs. Two centre stitches, one front and one back, remain unworked.
First leg
Round 45: sc into 15 stitches [14]
Rounds 46 to 49: sc in all stitches [14]
Stuff the leg.
Round 50: dec around, fasten off and sew closed.
Second leg
Repeat rounds 45 to 50. Leave a long yarn tail to close the gap between the legs.
Nose and Mouth
Pink yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in mr [6]
Round 2: inc all stitches [12]
Change to white yarn.
Round 3: blo sc in all stitches [12]
Round 4: sc in all stitches [12]
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
For the smile, attach pink yarn two stitches from centre of round 4 into the back loop.
Row 1: sc in 5 stitches, ch 1 turn [5]
Row 2: skip first stitch, sc in next 4 stitches, ch 1 turn [4]
Row 3: skip first stitch, sc in next 3 stitches, ch 1 turn [3]
Row 4: skip first stitch, sc in next stitch and fasten off.
Leave a long tail for sewing to the face.
Scarf
Light blue yarn, velvet or textured yarn works beautifully.
Chain 35.
Row 1: hdc in third chain from hook, hdc across, ch 1 turn [33]
Rows 2 to 4: hdc across, ch 1 turn [33]
Row 5: hdc x 6, change to green hdc x 2, change to white hdc x 2, change to red hdc x 2, change back to blue hdc x 22 [33]
Rows 6 to 7: hdc across, ch 1 turn [33]
Fold scarf lengthwise and sc through both edges to join [33].
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Attach around the neck with the flag facing forward.
Finishing Touches
Embroider eyebrows using grey yarn.
Pin and surface crochet the number 26 onto the tummy, turning the stoat as needed to keep your stitches comfortable and even
