There’s something magical about creating a tiny hero with your own hands. This little Pocket Spiderhero has become one of my most loved designs, not just because he’s adorable, but because people absolutely light up when they hold him.

I first designed this mini hero as a quick project I could make between larger toys. I wanted something small enough to attach to a keychain, gift to a child, or tuck into a pocket when someone needed a bit of bravery. Every time I share him at markets or online, someone smiles and tells me who they’d give him to. A grandson. A niece. A best friend going through a hard time. A coworker who loves superheroes.

Crochet really does make the world softer.
And today—you get this pattern for free, so you can pass the joy forward too.

🕷️ Pocket Spiderhero Pattern

Skill Level: Beginner
Finished Size: Approx. 5 cm tall when made with 8ply yarn & 3 mm hook

Materials

• 8ply (weight 4) soft acrylic yarn

• 3 mm hook (US Size 7)

• Red yarn (10g)

• Blue yarn (10g)

• Black yarn (2g)

• Stitch marker

• Yarn needle

• Toy stuffing

• Sticky notes (optional but helpful!)

Stitches Used (US Terms)

• ch – chain

• sc – single crochet

• dc – double crochet

• hdc – half double crochet

• ss – slip stitch

• FO – fasten off

• BLO – back loop only

• inc – increase

• dec – invisible decrease

• sts – stitches

• R – round/row

• ( ) – repeat instructions

• [ ] – stitch count

Red yarn
R1. 6 sc in MR [6]

Change to blue
R2–R4. sc around [6]

Change to red
R5–R6. sc around [6]

Do not stuff arms.

Legs

Red yarn

R2. sc x 3, inc x 3 [9]

Change to blue

FO first leg.
Repeat for second leg, but do not fasten off.

Stuff firmly before closing.

White yarn
R1. In MR: ch 2, dc 2, sc 2, ch 1, sc 2, dc 2 [8]
Close MR tightly and FO with long tail.
(Chains do not count as stitches.)

Black yarn (outline)
Attach to ch1 space.
R2. sc around (sc into chain if needed so no white shows) [8]
FO with long tail for sewing.

🕷️ Spider Emblem

Black yarn
R1. In MR: ch1, hdc, sc, hdc, ch2, 2 sc into 2nd ch
FO leaving a long tail to sew & embroider the legs.

🕷️ Assembly

1. Sew head to body.

2. Attach eyes to front of head.

3. Sew spider emblem to chest & embroider legs.

4. Add a keychain if desired.
